A Day Cream per climate? Yes!

Meet the climates.

Polar        Tropical        Desert        Temperate

Earth’s four major climates that affect skin, echoed in the names of our Day Creams, are Polar, Tropical, Desert, and Temperate — but you can call them Brrr, Sticky, Parched, and Just Right. Wherever you find yourself, at whatever time of year, Pour Moi makes it easy to have optimally balanced and harmonious skin.

Polar Climate (Brrr...)

Did you know that skin loses up to 25% of its
ability to hold moisture in the harsh winter
climate? The cold, dry air steals moisture from
your skin, leaving it looking dry and lifeless.
Indoor heat further robs the air of moisture,
as do hot showers or baths. Keeping skin
happy and healthy requires a smart approach to skincare — an effective regimen, the Polar Day Cream, and a few essential winter skincare tips. Layer a Serum under your Polar Day Cream to slow down moisture loss effectively, exfoliate regularly, opt for lukewarm water instead of hot, add moisture to the air with a humidifier, and use an SPF when outside for long periods.

Tropical Climate (Sticky)

When high temperatures are combined with 60% or higher humidity, your complexion may be left sweaty and shiny. Contrary to common belief, humidity doesn't accelerate perspiration. Sweat simply stays in the skin long enough for you to notice as it slowly (sometimes never) evaporates in the tropical atmosphere, but staying in the skin so long causes sweat-induced blocked pores. Because skin naturally produces more sebum in tropical climate, skin of any type can become excessively oily. To keep your skin clear and hydrated, opt for the Tropical Day Cream. It’s lightweight texture and innovative formulation keeps skin perfectly moist while calming the sebaceous glands for a balanced sebum content in skin. For optimal skin health, make sure to always use the Hydrating Balancer to help keep pores clear and healthy, wash your skin at least twice a day using a gentle cleanser, exfoliate regularly, and apply (or re-apply) sunscreen when outside.

Desert Climate (Parched)

The most important thing to know about desert climate is that there isn’t enough moisture in the air for skin to attract water molecules to stay optimally hydrated. This can cause skin to become quickly dehydrated and dead skin cells to build up, putting external skin aging in over gear. Enduring the desert heat, even just for a few minutes, triggers climate-specific biological processes in the skin that can result in skin’s moisture levels to become out-of-balance with either too much or too little sebum. It’s vital to switch to the Desert Day Cream to moisturize and nourish skin according to skin’s behavior in this extreme climate. In addition to your healthy skin routine, cleanse your face at least twice a day and exfoliate often. A facial mister can be helpful, too, but make sure to pick a brand made with French water as the water purity is most important (this is why Pour Moi is made in France — the water!).

Temperate Climate (Just Right)

Skin loves the climate during mild seasons that suit skin best to stay healthy and happy. While seasons like spring and fall are milder, skin faces more weather elements that can result in extra sensitivity — on-and-off rain, sunshine, or overcast skies. Update your moisturizer to the Temperate Day Cream to help skin stay optimal hydrated and nourished. You can’t control the weather, but now you can control how your skin lives in it.

Skin Cares About the Climate: How to Choose the Right Day Cream

1. Get to know the environment you’re in.

Are you in a dry or humid climate? What season is it? Don’t worry about air-conditioning, heating, or pollution, as our climate smart technology accounts for it.

2. Temperate is the baseline.

When in doubt, use the Temperate Day Cream designed for normal conditions. (Hint: 99% of all skincare is designed only for temperate climates, forgetting about the harsher climates.)

3. Desert, Tropical, and Polar are extreme climates,

and our climate smart Day Creams accept the challenge.

4. Summer is not a climate.

Desert and Tropical are two extreme summer climates, and Temperate is a mild summer climate. What your skin needs from skincare varies significantly per climate.

    Same with winter.

Mild winters call for Temperate, but harsh winters call for Polar.

5. Location hydration.

If you travel to a different time zone, you’re most likely in a different climate. Update your Day Cream accordingly.

6. Trust your intuition

...and your smartphone. Trust yourself to choose the best cream for your day. (Hint: You can’t really make a mistake with climate smart skincare. You can only do better for your skin.)
